October 6th, 1927:
The Jazz Singer starring Al Jolson opens. It's considered one of the first talkies although it's really just a silent film with a few musical scenes. The film itself is good, not great, but the musical performances are like nothing you'll see today. In lieu of any actual opinion, I shall merely present you with Jolson singing "Toot Toot Tootsy" as seen in the film and let you judge the performance for yourself.
