In 1995, Pulp released their breakthrough album Different Class. This loose concept album is a meditation on British class relations. "Common People" is about a rich girl who thinks it's cool to go slumming. "Mis-Shapes" rallies the artistic and creative by using "the one thing we've got more of, that's our minds." The chilling song "I Spy" is the tale of one man of lower class's seduction of a rich man's wife. Not all of the songs are class battles. "Something Changed" is a rumination on fate.
Today's featured song is "Disco 2000", a great rock dance song from Different Class. The narrator sings to Deborah, a woman from his childhood who he seems to have made a promise to meet up with in the year 2000. The video tells a different story.
